Business Importing
When you want to start an import business, you do have to ensure you meet your country’s laws governing the types of goods you can import. Importing refers to bringing goods into your country from another for the purpose of selling to customers. You must obtain a business number and identify the type of products you intend to import. You do need to include a description of each product. You also have to determine the country from which the products will be coming.
The main thing you have to ascertain is that the products you want to import are not banned in your country. You should contact the government agency for a list of products you can legally bring into the country. There will be a list of products that you can import, but with restrictions on categories of the products.
When you start an importing business you will be subject to tariff regulations and fees. This is especially true if any of the products are manufactured in your country but you can get them cheaper from another country. The tariff is a government fee or tax charged as duty for bringing these goods into the country. You have to factor this tariff into your costs so that you can redeem the expense when you sell the product in order to make a profit.
When dealing with companies in other countries, there are economic risks involved. You may have to pay for the product in advance and then run the risk of being scammed when the company does not send you the products. The products may not be exactly as described or may be defective, in which case they are useless to you. You also have to take the exchange rate into consideration when buying goods from another country. The changing rate of the dollar may mean you have to change the amount you charge and this will not sit well with regular customers.
